If you follow Dutch football you will have seen the name everywhere: Toto. For readers outside the Netherlands, here is what it is, how it compares on price with the alternatives, and where it is worth checking first.

What Toto is

Toto is the sports betting brand of Nederlandse Loterij, the Dutch lottery operator that also runs the national lotteries. It is one of the licensed online sportsbooks in the Netherlands, where online sports betting is regulated by the gambling authority, the Kansspelautoriteit. As with every licensed Dutch operator, you have to be 18 or older to bet.

For this site, Toto matters for a practical reason: it is the bookmaker whose prices we collect most completely, at several moments before every match, which is why our backtests use Toto's prices first.

On the main result market, Toto is the most expensive of the four. On over/under 2.5 it is slightly cheaper than Unibet.

The exception: the Eredivisie

Toto's 1X2 margin is around 6% in almost every league we track: Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the European competitions. In the Eredivisie it was 3.1%, half that, and level with Unibet's 2.9% there. If you bet on Dutch football, Toto's result prices are competitive in a way they are not elsewhere.

When to check Toto

  • Eredivisie 1X2: competitive margin.
  • Over/under 2.5: often at or near the Dutch best.
  • Elsewhere on 1X2: usually not the best price; compare first.

Toto also offers markets and promotions we do not measure here; this comparison is about the price of the standard markets only.
